Podcasts = Podchraoltaí Bridget Bn Mhic Choitir, Crathach Thiar, Cléire Bridget comes from Cape's most literary family. She was a sister of the most prolific local lore collector of Cléire, Ciarán Ó Síocháin (who contributed most of what is in Marion Gunn's book 'Céad Fáilte go Cléire' (1990) and much more material which is still unpublished in Roinn Béaloideas Éireann. She was also related to 'An tÚdar' - Conchubhar Ó Síocháin of Cnocán na mBáirneach, who told the stories published in 'Seanchas Chléire' (1939). Bridget was a gifted poetess, who had the wealth of Cape Clear Irish at her fingertips, as this piece shows. |

Learn a cúpla focal (couple of words, or better, phrases) for handling Irish-speaking visitors or, if you're visiting this summer, to encourage the use of Irish here in a simple way. As there are many more non-Irish speakers in Cape now than ever before you may not find here what you're made to believe in promotional literature about Oileán Chléire. But everybody, whether local non-Irish speaker, learner or visitor from outside, can help to encourage a basic use of Irish in areas where people meet this summer, like the shop, pubs, restaurants. Dein difríocht - your contribution can make a difference! |
