Irish Translation Services - What exactly is involved?
Professional translation is not just translation of words and sentences. The full service consists of three elements.
1) Translation of a text in the source language into a text in the target language. The translator must understand the source text against its background, context and culture. It requires an understanding and a skill beyond plain linguistic knowledge in order to produce a translation that fulfils its intended purpose.
2) Revision is the second step. Here the source text (the original text) and the target text (the translated text) are compared side by side to check for completeness, accuracy and translation errors. This is to ensure there are no missing words or sentences or duplications of words, that all technical terms are accurate, suitable and in line with standards of official terminology. Basically, we see to it that nothing is "lost in translation".
3) Proofreading is the final step where only the target text is checked through for style, natural flow of language and for typos, punctuation and formatting.
